PARIS IS BURNING at the Castro Theatre with special guest star LATRICE ROYALE happens one night only.  Hostess Peaches Christ welcomes her very special guest Latrice Royale for a pre-show ball at the historic Castro Theatre celebrating the most seminal drag documentary ever made.  Latrice became “drag mother” to a new generation of aspiring queens after appearing on Season 4 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” this past year.  Join the ultimate drag mom as Ms. Royale schools the children of San Francisco at tonight’s Drag 101 Class.   Many lessons will be taught but most importantly Ms. Royale promises to teach you how to read!

The pre-show extravaganza kicks off with a very special live performance from the legendary Latrice followed by a special BALL presentation starring some of the Bay Area’s vogue luminaries in the underground local ball scene.  Celebrity judges rate realness and more for a trophy awarded to the house most deserving.  Peaches Christ will be working the walkway in a design created by couturier Mister David.  Audience members are encouraged to wear ANYTHING REALNESS for a fashion contest where the realest look wins.

You can become anything and do anything, right here, right now. It won't be questioned. I came. I saw. I conquered. That's a ball.

-Pepper LaBeija (Paris Is Burning)

Following the pre-show ball, the film Paris Is Burning (1990) screens on the Castro Theatre’s gigantic screen.  The film is an unblinking behind the scenes story of fashion obsessed New Yorkers who created "voguing" and drag balls , and turned these raucous celebrations into a powerful expression of personal pride. The world within a world is instantly familiar, filled with ambitions, desires and yearnings that reflect America itself. Paris Is Burning is an intimate portrait of one urban community, a world in which the allure of high fashion, status and wealth becomes an affirmation of love, acceptance and joy.

If everybody went to balls, and did less drugs, it'd be a fun world, wouldn't it?
